Readings 17-24 from The Books of the Bible (TBoTB)
We begin this section of readings with Job, as an Interlude into the story line between Deuteronomy to Joshua. Why? “It is the antithesis of the Covenant. Could it be that Job balances out the Covenant and begins to answer the question of why do righteous people suffer?” (God’s EPIC Adventure, 124).
An Interlude. Job
- Reading 17: 1197-1211
- Reading 18: 1211-1223
- Reading 19: 1223-1237
- Reading 20: 1238-1254
Thought To Contemplate
God is in control of his world. He sometimes gives the gift of suffering to his children to accomplish his purposes in the world. Surely not a popular concept, but a Biblical one nonetheless.
Joshua
- Reading 21: 261-274
- Reading 22: 274-289
Thought To Contemplate
When God gives a promise he will surely deliver. It may not be in the specific time frame in which we wish it would occur. He continually acts in our history to fulfill his promises to us.
Judges | Ruth
- Reading 23: 291-302
- Reading 24: 302-319
- Reading 24: 323-327
Thought To Contemplate: Judges
One of the lessons that can be learned from Judges is that we will suffer the consequences of our choices, but we don’t have to live in a self-defeating pattern of life. We can break free from the pattern by making different choices.
Thought To Contemplate: Ruth
We can live a quiet and godly life in our community even when, by all appearances, the quality of life is on the decline.
Reading Guide
You can read using the following guide and take your readings a bit slower. To read at a 100 day pace, read the page numbers in the 100 Day column. To read at a 200 day pace, read the page numbers in the 200 Day column. To read at a 300 day pace, read the page numbers in the 300 Day column. You create the days of the week you want to read.
On average, the 100 day column is about forty-five minutes to an hour. The 200 Day column is about thirty minutes. The 300 day column is about fifteen-twenty minutes. Remember, some folks read faster and some folks read slower and the times above are built on an average of about 250-300 words a minute. Of course, this is pure reading time, not reading and stop-to-think time or meditating time, not reading and discussion time, and not reading and sharing in the Comments section below. It is just reading time!
